Weekend Preview: Galway Bay Age Grades (7–8 February 2026)
Galway Bay Rugby have a busy weekend ahead with fixtures across the age grades,
from Minis right through to U18.5. There are key league games taking place,
with strong opposition and plenty at stake as the season continues.
Below is a round-up of this weekend’s matches, with short previews from each team’s management.
Minis
The U6/7s, U8s, U9s and U11s are on the road to Loughrea this weekend for a Mini Blitz. This is the return fixture following Loughrea’s visit to St Mary’s back in November, and another enjoyable day of rugby is expected for all involved.
The U10s will take part in the Connacht U10 Festival in Ballinasloe on Saturday.
They will face teams from across the province including Buccaneers, Corinthians, Dunmore, Monivea and others. These festivals are a highlight of the rugby calendar, and Galway Bay are hoping to field three teams from a large and growing squad.
The U12s travel to Castlebar for the U12 Connacht Festival. This group is raring to go and should enjoy a couple of strong matches on Saturday.
Girls
The U10 Girls will also be in action at the Connacht U10 Festival in Ballinasloe.
It promises to be a great experience for the players and another positive step
in the continued development of girls’ rugby at Galway Bay. The U12 girls will have training.
U13s
Fixture: Galway Bay v Loughrea
Venue: Laurel Park
Kick-off: Sunday, 12.00pm
Loughrea are a very strong side and will be out for revenge after last year’s defeat.
This is an important game for Galway Bay, with a win needed to stay in contention at the top of the league.
U14s
Fixture: Galway Bay v Connemara All Blacks
Venue: Dangan
Kick-off: Sunday, 12.30pm
Galway Bay are unbeaten in Division 1B, but there is never more than the bounce of a ball between these two teams. Another tight and competitive game is expected at Dangan.
U18.5
Fixture: Galway Bay v Corinthians
Venue: Corinthians Park
Kick-off: Sunday, 12.00pm
Galway Bay U18.5 play Corinthians this Sunday at Corinthian Park. Their previous 1a league game last October was a hard fought encounter resulting in a draw which was a fair result for both sides. This game should be well worth attending.
U15’s, 16’s & 17’s don’t have matches.
